EUROPEAN DEVELOPMENT DAYS ENG final The thirteen edition of the European Development Days held on 18-19 June 2019 in Brussels, Belgium sought to explore the issue of global inequality and its impact on the well-being of the global population. Making mainstream news, this two-day event gathered development community to share ideas and experiences, as well as to compound solutions in order to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
ADEPT and the majority of its members attended the EDD19, where they had a common stand exclusively ran by the beneficiaries that are experts and pioneers in migrant and diaspora-led development initiatives. While diaspora development actors and their voices are under-represented in mainstream development discourse, the stand offered through thematic meetups a unique insight in migrant and diaspora initiatives touching upon youth inequalities, gender and social protection system, diaspora civic and political engagement and diaspora economic and social contribution to sustainable development. In the light of the recently signed MOU between FAO and ADEPT, FAO technical experts joined the conversations on the stand and shared their valuable expertise on how to harness the diaspora potential for greater gender equality, youth empowerment, women’s economic participation, etc.
An interactive quiz on migration and inequalities boosted the attendees’ exchange and interaction and contributed to challenging stereotypes of migrants and changing the narrative on development.
