For its twelfth edition, the European Development Days (EDD 2018) brought together the European Union’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Gender equality and women empowerment are at the core of European values and enshrined within the EU’s legal and political framework. This is why the event focused on the vital role of women and the need for their full and equal participation and leadership in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
For EDD 2018, ADEPT, represented by its members (ACP-YPN, AFRICAN SOCIETY IN CROATIA, AFRUCA, CASC, FORWARD, FSM, HAPANI, HUMANITAS AFRIKA, RADIO AFRICA TV and many others), actively participated in the workshops and discussions on migration, gender and women’s empowerment, as well as facilitated and coordinated the participation of Honourable Dr. Isatou Touray, Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, The Republic of the Gambia in two High-level Panels on ‘Women and Girls on the Move: Towards Safer Work and Migration for Women – Assessing Determinants of Vulnerability and Women’s Empowerment through Migration’ and on ‘Raising women’s participation in decision-making: engaging men as change agents – Mobilising more men as allies to promote gender balance in leadership.
About ADEPT and the European Development Days:
The ADEPT Platform has been an active part of EDD since 2015. It has previously co-organised Lab Debates and Brainstorming Sessions and held Exhibition Stands in the EDD Village. Every year, ADEPT sponsors and enables many African Diaspora Development Organisations (including first-timers) to be part of the learning, networking and development interaction which EDD provides. In 2015 as part of European Year for Development (EYD), the ADEPT Executive Director was part of the High Level Panel on Migration and Development.
