On 21 February 2017, Gibril Faal, Interim Director of ADEPT and Director of GK Partners had an audience with His Holiness Pope Francis at the Clementine Hall at the Apostolic Palace at the Vatican. The audience was part of the opening of the Sixth International Forum on Migration and Peace, addressed by the Pope.
On 22 February 2017, at the Italian Parliament, Gibril spoke on ‘Innovative Private-Public Practices as Framework for Sustaining the Migration and Development Nexus’. Speakers from the Vatican included Cardinal Turkson, President of the Dicastery for Integrated Human Development, Cardinal Pietra Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, and Archbishop Silvano Tomasi.
Speakers from politics and government included Ms Rosario Marin, former Treasurer of the United States of America, Mr Domenico Manzione, State Secretary, Italian Ministry of Interior, Mr Hans-Georg Engelke, State Secretary, Federal German Ministry of Interior, and Mr Thomas Silberhorn, State Secretary, Federal German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The Forum was organised by the Scalabrini International Migration Network, led by Fr Leonir Chiarello, and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, led by Dr Hans-Gert Pottering.
