On 30 April 2021, ADEPT launched its second “Seed funding” call for proposals, which aims at supporting initiatives in Europe and Africa led by African diaspora organisations based in Europe. Open to all African diaspora organisations based in Europe and registered within ADEPT network, the call resulted in 16 applications, for projects mainly carried out on the African continent (80%).
After an external selection procedure and a jury committee, 11 associations, based in 5 European countries, were selected for funding, for a total amount of €75,726. The projects, which will mainly take place between September 2021 and July 2022, will be implemented in 10 different countries in Africa and Europe.
This call for projects has once again highlighted the need to support diaspora organisations towards more professionalisation and, especially on project management codes and procedures, which are necessary to apply to calls for projects. The Seed funding facility is thus intended to be a springboard towards a change of scale for initiatives led by the diaspora and a support tool to strengthen the capacities of ADDOs in project management.
ADEPT offered one-to-one support to the associations that were not selected so that they could work on their project with some guidance, with a view to potentially prepare a new application, either for the Seed funding or another facility.
Project fact sheets will be regularly published in the next newsletters in order to highlight the initiatives implemented by the ADDOs and supported by ADEPT.
